A technical fault at the airport's air traffic control meant no planes could arrive or depart from the facility.

Flight operations have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant air traffic control outage halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped after an systems problem that arose around 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Operations Restart with Continued Disruption

Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, considerable delays are anticipated to affect schedules. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with many others experiencing delays.

An airport representative had initially projected that dozens of flights could be impacted.

"Travelers are urged to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their booked journeys," the statement added.

Root of the Disruption

The problem was traced to the operational halt to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers should still plan to check the status of their trip before departing to the hub as knock-on effects are cleared.
